Inaugural exhibition: Window to the World The Museum of Design and Merchandising is now the Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising! The Avenir Foundation of Lakewood, Colorado, recently made a generous gift to the Museum that supports the teaching and outreach mission of the Department of Design and Merchandising in the College of Applied Human Sciences. The Museum is now located in the University Center for the Arts. Avenir is the French word for future and as we prepare for the opening of our inaugural exhibition, Window to the World (April 9 - September 1), we envision a very exciting future! ------------------------------ Asian costuming, garments, quilts, and textiles on display Window to the World features a representative sampling of artifacts from around the world, including Central Asian costuming, richly embroidered and embellished garments from China and Japan, late 19th century American quilts, apparel and textiles from India, 19th century fashionable dress, and much, much more. Catalogue published for Window to the World is made possible, in part, through a grant from the Lilla B. Morgan Memorial Fund, which was established to enhance the cultural development and atmosphere of Colorado State University. ------------------------------ Opening reception The opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 9, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising, 115 University Center for the Arts. This event is free and open to the public. ------------------------------ Avenir Museum hours Monday-Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More information
