NREL Spring Seminar
Friday, May 4, 2012, 11:00 AM
NESB Building, Room B224 - The Electronic Conference Room

The theme of the NREL Spring 2012 Seminar Series is "Bridging the Gap between Science and Society through Scientific Data Literacy." This seminar will be presented by Nicole Kaplan, Research Associate in NREL at CSU and Greg Newman, Research Scientist in NREL at CSU. The title of the talk is: "Data Management for NREL and Beyond: Navigating the Sea of Ecological Data."

Abstract: Greg Newman, Research Scientist, and Nicole Kaplan, Information Manager, will be presenting a vision for data management to support NREL and DESS research, education and science communication. A conceptual model will be presented that details components of an information system that target and support private, community and public data management needs. We discuss potential data management services, arenas for eco-informatics research, developing partnerships, and emerging innovative approaches to disseminate information and engage the broader community. Please join us for a short presentation, followed by an opportunity to chart a course for the future of NREL/DESS data management.
